Kai Tao, ND, MPH, CNM

Kai is a practicing Certified Nurse Midwife with experience in maternal, child, and reproductive health policy, programs and clinical operations. She leads ICAN!’s programmatic work across provider training, patient engagement, and policy implementation. Prior to founding ICAN!, Kai founded Juno4Me— a direct-to-consumer platform connecting patients with contraceptive care providers. She has served as the Deputy Commissioner for the Chicago Department of Public Health and as the VP of Clinical Operations for Planned Parenthood of Illinois. Kai served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, working on payment reform. Kai participates in multiple committees including ACOG’s patient safety and quality improvement program, serves on the board of Health & Medicine Policy Research Group and volunteers with birth equity initiatives. She received her Master of Science and Nursing Doctorate from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and her Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health.
