HFS Family Planning Program
To qualify for HFS Family Planning Program coverage, you MUST:
- Be a U.S. citizen or on the path to citizenship*
- Have an individual income of $3,500 or less a month (which equates to $42,000 or less a year) before taxes
- Be a resident of Illinois
- NOT have public health insurance coverage such as Medicaid, CHIP (Illinois All Kids), or Moms & Babies
*Note: If you apply for the HFS Family Planning Program, you may qualify to get temporary, immediate coverage called Family Planning Presumptive Eligibility (FPPE) for up to two months while your HFS Family Planning Program application is processed and reviewed. You will not have to answer any questions about your U.S. citizenship status to qualify for FPPE coverage. If you don’t end up qualifying for full HFS Family Planning Program coverage, you will NOT be penalized or billed for using FPPE coverage.
Adult Medicaid (for people age 19 and older)
To be eligible for Medicaid in Illinois, you MUST:
- Be 19 years old or older
- Be a U.S. citizen or on the path to citizenship*
- Have a certain yearly household income
- Have a physical mailing address in Illinois (can’t be a P.O. box)
*Note: In Illinois, if you’re 42 years old or older, you do NOT have to be a U.S. citizen to be eligible for Medicaid. Your only requirement is to have a certain yearly household income.
Moms & Babies (Medicaid for people who are pregnant)
To be eligible for Moms & Babies in Illinois, you MUST:
- Be pregnant at the time you apply*
- Have a certain yearly household income
- Have a physical mailing address in Illinois (cannot be a P.O. box)
*Note: Moms & Babies is available throughout pregnancy and for 12 months after the end of the pregnancy, regardless of the pregnancy outcome (birth, pregnancy loss, or abortion).
Illinois All Kids (Medicaid for people age 18 or younger)
To be eligible, you MUST:
- Be 18 years old or younger
- Have a certain yearly household income
- Have a physical mailing address in Illinois (cannot be a P.O. box)
- Involve a parent or guardian in the CHIP / Illinois All Kids application process
